Are tiny homes suitable for use as granny flats?

Absolutely! Tiny homes are a popular choice for granny flats due to their potential exemption from council approval. Our models can be customised to better suit your relatives’ needs, including options for single-level layouts with features like accessible doorways and ramps for wheelchairs and mobility aids.

What are the risks involved in investing in a tiny home within an unregulated industry?

There is no risk if the planning and execution of the build are done by a reputable manufacturer. With the growing demand for housing in Australia, a well-built and compliant tiny home will always be a secure investment. Unlike fixed dwellings, your Tiony Home on wheels can be relocated to other suitable properties, offering greater flexibility.

Do you need a builder’s license to construct a tiny home on wheels?

This can vary based on your intended future use of the home. However, currently, a builder’s license is not required for a standard Tiny Home on Wheels where building approval is not necessary. According to existing regulations, the construction of a tiny home on wheels typically falls under the caravan code, although this may depend on whether it is intended for temporary or semi-permanent use. Tinyhome QLD holds a builder’s license and always seeks to construct in alignment with the national building code, especially if the tiny home may require certification for a more permanent location in the future. As licensed builders, we consider your plans and offer options that add value and consider future needs.

How much does a quote cost?

All our quotes are free. Simply email or call us or fill out the “Request a Quote” form at the bottom of each model’s page on our “Contact Us” page.

Do you sell plans for your tiny home designs?

Unfortunately, no. Producing a comprehensive document that effectively communicates the design to an audience with varying levels of construction experience involves too many complexities.

How long does it take to build? Is there a waiting list?

It typically takes 8-12 weeks (about 3 months) after the drawings are approved.

Do you do custom tiny home builds?

No, we do not offer custom-built Tiny Homes on wheels currently. However, all our models have been meticulously designed, engineered, and tested to maximise space utilisation, natural light, and ventilation, ensuring optimal functionality for small living spaces at an affordable price.

Can you make some changes to your standard models and design finishes?

Absolutely! There is flexibility to make changes within certain limits. Our Standard Tiny home on wheels can be personalised with options for fittings, fixtures, and finishes such as flooring, cabinetry, benchtops, sinks, and more.

Can I change or choose the building materials?

We aim to use high-quality materials that meet Australian standards and are built to last. Our tiny houses on wheels feature cold-formed steel framing for the main structure, offering benefits such as precision engineering, dimensional stability, lightweight efficiency, weather resistance, sustainability, high tensile strength, and fire safety. Despite using these premium materials, our objective is to maintain affordability as much as possible.
